Recovery is a way that compensates for the reason for the blame. The Kite Runnerâ is particularly a ââ¬Å"novel of recovery. â⬠The principle character, Amir, needs to figure out how to make up for himself subsequent to having sold out Hassan. Sanaubar, similarly, must discover recovery. Baba settle his past liable by carrying out beneficial things First, Amir makes up for himself by ventures into mental fortitude and salvages the child of his sibling Hassan Redemption is the demonstration of saying or being spared from transgression, mistake or insidiousness, which the fundamental character Amir appears to require the most.Amir lives with the blame he has developed throughout the years due to one occurrence from his adolescence. Amir's fatherââ¬â¢s words despite everything reverberation through his headà ââ¬Å"A kid who won't go to bat for himself turns into a man who can't confront anything. â⬠Pg (24). In spite of the fact that Amir devastated the lives of numerous individuals, and he has had more than one chance to vindicate himself of his blame, he isn't the egotistical young man he used to be. Before Amir can go headed for recovery, Amir must understand that he can't return and change what he has done as a youngster, and he should discover internal peace.Although on the off chance that it was not for Amir's activities as a kid, Sohrab could never have should have been spared in any case however by sparing Sohrab, the last bit of Hassan's life, has any kind of effect. From the second he decided to walk out on Hassan, there were numerous odds whereà ââ¬Å"There's a method to be acceptable againâ⬠(238). For every one of his bad behaviors, however he decided not to take any of these. Sohrab was his last and just possibility for recovery. ââ¬Å"I have a spouse in America, a home, a profession and a familyâ⬠.But how might I get together and re turn home whenever my activities may have cost Hassan a possibility at those exact same things? What's more, what Rahim Khan uncovered to me changed things. Made me perceive how my whole life, some time before the winter of 1975, going back to when that singing Hazara lady was all the while nursing me, had been a pattern of falsehoods double-crossings and secretsâ⬠(238). Amir at last turned into the man who supported himself and his transgressions. All through his youth, Amir searched for his dad's fondness and he never could get it. His dad had saidà ââ¬Å"I'm letting you know, Rahim, there is something missing in that kid (24).Amir's dad would have been pleased with him right now since that was all he had needed from him. The blame that was worked throughout the years was at last settled at the wellbeing of Sohrab. In Afghanistan when Amir went to bat for Sohrab and Assef forcefully beat him up, Amir had saidà ââ¬Å"My body was broken exactly how gravely I wouldn't disco ver until some other time however I felt mended. Recuperated finally. I giggled. â⬠(289) which demonstrated Amir had dealt with what he had done as a kid and was at long last felt relieved.Although he was getting beat up, it didn't make a difference any longer, he just wished he had confronted Assef years prior, and possibly he would have earned his reclamation in that back street. Second,à In the novel Baba Seeks recovery by rewarding Hassan well and continually recollecting his birthday. Amir and Baba were planting tulips, when Amir had inquired as to whether he'd ever consider getting new workers And Baba said ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Hassan's not going anyplace, he'd yapped. Heââ¬â¢s remaining right here with us, where he has a place. This is his home and we're his family. He had sobbed, sobbed, when Ali declared he and Hassan were leaving us. â⬠(237) Kite Runner Individuals are ethically equivocal individuals. We are neither simply malicious nor absolutely great, however regularly a blend. Also, perhaps thatââ¬â¢s why a considerable lot of us are pulled in to writing works with ethically vague characters, for example, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The Kite Runner was set in Kabul, Afghanistan, continues to United States during the Soviet Union intrusion, and afterward the setting returns to Kabul when the Taliban ascends in power. In this novel, Amir, to whom the entire story of the book is revolved around, is an ethically uncertain character.Amir is a Pashtun kid; he deceives his fellowship with Hassan, a Hazara child of Amirââ¬â¢s fatherââ¬â¢s worker. Blame frequents Amir for a considerable length of time much after he had left Kabul and moved to United States. Amir is an ethically equivocal character in light of the fact that heââ¬â¢s a quitter, heââ¬â¢s narrow minded, he sells out his companion and lies, yet he addit ionally discovers fortitude to confront what he had fouled up and discovers salvation. The initial segment of the book The Kite Runner demonstrates how Amir is certainly not a simply decent character.Amir frequently spends time with the Hazara kid, Hassan and would disclose to Hassan that they are companions, yet he despite everything feels heââ¬â¢s above Hassan in light of the fact that Amir is Pashtun and Hazara individuals are considered underneath the Pashtun individuals. Amir wouldnââ¬â¢t spend time with Hassan when other Pashtun young men are with him, he likewise ridicules the way that Hassan canââ¬â¢t read, not considering the way that Hassan doesnââ¬â¢t have the chance to get instruction. Amir couldnââ¬â¢t stand Hassanââ¬â¢s insight: Amir had composed an anecdote about how a manââ¬â¢s attacks pearls when they fall into this enchantment cup, and the story finished with manââ¬â¢s spouse dead in his arms on a mountain heap of pearls. When Hassan heard th e story, he had delighted in it, yet he likewise brought up a couple of issues that rankled Amir, ââ¬Å"Why did the man murder his better half? Truth be told, for what reason did he ever need to be miserable to cry tears? Couldnââ¬â¢t he have quite recently smelled an onion? â⬠(p. 34). Amir was furious on the grounds that a negligible Hazara kid who couldnââ¬â¢t read had shown Amir something he, an informed kid, didnââ¬â¢t make sense of. These couple of models that show how Amir is mean and presumptuous are nothing contrasted with what he does to Hassan later on.Assef is a Pashtun kid that really abhors Hazaras and accepts that Hazaras should all vanish. At the point when Amir gets Assef assaulting Hassan, rather than stepping in, Amir flees and imagines nothing had occurred. At the point when blame fired gobbling Amir up and he couldnââ¬â¢t stand confronting Hassan on the grounds that Hassan helps him to remember his apprehensive activity, he nailed a wrongdoing of burglary to Hassan so as to have Hassan expelled from his home. The second piece of the book shows that Amir isnââ¬â¢t absolutely detestable in spite of what he has done. For some time, Amirââ¬â¢s life is loaded up with the blame of not sparing Hassan from the assault and it shielded Amir from being totally upbeat, despite the fact that he found the adoration for his life in America and got hitched. At that point one day, Amirââ¬â¢s fatherââ¬â¢s companion, Rhahim, considered him to allow him to make up for himself. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s an approach to be acceptable againâ⬠(p. 226). Amir found an approach to be acceptable once more. Amir returned to Afghan to discover Hassanââ¬â¢s child, Sohrab, to take him with Amir in light of the fact that Hassan and his significant other had been shot to death in the city by the Taliban.Amir discovers Sohrab with Assef and winds up getting into a physical battle with Assef. Amir essentially lets Assef beat him up and keepin g in mind that being beat up, Amir feels soothed. ââ¬Å"My body was broken â⬠exactly how severely I wouldnââ¬â¢t discover until later â⬠yet I felt mended. Mended at lastâ⬠(p. 289). Amir felt that he was being mended from the blame that has been creeping underneath his skin each and every day. He had deceived his unparalleled companion, Hassan, lied, and annihilated an opportunity where Hassan may have left to United States with him would even now be alive.Amir felt that he at long last got what he merited and he felt much better, he had discovered salvation. What's more, he had a short time later taken in Sohrab as his own child. Amir had been a quitter; he had settled on narrow minded choices and destroyed Hassanââ¬â¢s live, however in the event that he had been absolutely malevolent, at that point he would not have felt blame, nor would he have taken a chance with his life to bring back a minor Hazaraââ¬â¢s child. Be that as it may, he had been loaded up wi th blame and he had gone to discover Sohrab and made up for himself. What's more, in this manner, Amir is an ideal case of an ethically questionable character. Kite Runner In ââ¬Å"The Kite Runner,â⬠composed by Khaled Hosseini, recounts to a distinctive story that exhibits the political and strict separation in Afghan culture. Worries about segregation are reminded to the peruser as one finds out about the narrative of two Afghan young men. A significant battle is clear between the two gatherings in Afghanistan, the Pashtuns, and the Hazaras. Separation sets into place as we find out about the history between the two family lines. On page 9, Amir read from a book that says ââ¬Å"Pashtuns had aggrieved and abused the Hazaras â⬠¦ the explanation was that Pashtuns were Sunni Muslims, while Hazaras were Shiââ¬â¢a.This sets in the possibility that the Pashtuns slaughtered the Hazaras essentially in light of the fact that they were not Sunni Muslims, bringing about the separation in the public eye against the Hazaras. All through the novel, there were numerous scenes of separation, for example, how Hassan was never welcomed to Amirââ¬â¢s bi rthday celebrations, Assef continually singling out Ali and Hassan as they are from an alternate class, and particularly when Assef was assaulting Hassan. Assef accepted that it was his entitlement to assault Hassan on the grounds that in his eyes, he was just a Hazara, an article which he can claim and control. The Author Khaled Hosseini likewise utilized numerous scholarly gadgets to stress the impacts of separation in the public arena. This is appeared on page 298 when Assef says ââ¬Å"Afghanistan resembles a lovely house covered with trash, and somebody needs to take out the trash. â⬠This is an allegorical gadget where Khaled Hosseini had Assef see the trash as the Hazaras. He likewise unmistakably depicted Assef as far as being Hitler by having a similar ethnic and political views.Another method the creator used to show segregation was on page 380 when General Taheri says ââ¬Å"they will need to know why there is a Hazara kid living with my little girl. â⬠This is t he point at which the General starts to address Amirââ¬â¢s activities. This shows even an agreeable character like the General, has a Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12278693918149595916noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-516900873140290018.post-69780281747979435022020-08-22T04:38:00.001-07:002020-08-22T04:38:30.053-07:00Practical Play Analysis EssaySubject/Vision Guan Hanqingââ¬â¢s Snow in Midsummer fixates on the possibility of social shamefulness and human enduring especially the uncalled for treatment of needy individuals during the Chinese Golden Era.â The play must rise above an extraordinary feeling of abuse as expected by its writers to mirror the clouded side of the general public they were in, as the fundamental character (Dou E) leaves a stunning condemnation as her unreasonable passing filled in as a living evidence of how under-class individuals like her are underestimated and are fleeting in spite of carrying on with an ethical life while the malicious ones won. This issue despite everything proceeds in the advanced world so it is significant that the story satisfies its motivation of causing the crowd to think about the presence of oppression in the general public and what ought to be done so as to stop it.â Every primary characterââ¬â¢s job ought to be all around stressed so as to make the message of the story more understandable.â The characters must be a lot of persuading to the degree that they are practically returning the crowd to Yuan Dynasty. An article made by Huo Jianyi, Yuan Dynasty Zaju, tells about how Guan Hanqing himself surrendered his calling of being a specialist and decided to serve people in general by composing plays that uncovered the clouded side of the general public, especially the guilty pleasure in wine and ladies as a lifestyle particularly for the Yuan rulers.â He and his kindred writers utilized their gifts and information in uncovering oppression and through their dramatic manifestations, talked in the interest of the enduring masses in spite of the Yuan rulers precluding it.â The accomplishment of this play will be accomplished if the equivalent blazing enthusiasm is legitimized by the characters. Stage Type and Settings The play is masterful in this way it is perfect to utilize a proscenium or picture outline stage.â It isn't important to utilize a conventional proscenium stage with its normal highlights like an enormous entrance close to the stage front or a blind so as to close it during act or scene breaks.â It is sufficient that the stage is raised a few feet enough for the crowd to see the perspective on the play while straightforwardly confronting it (ââ¬Å"Stage:â⬠Wikipedia). As the Snow in Midsummer is a great play dependent on a Han Dynasty people story (despite the fact that advanced in the Yuan Dynasty), the overall topic ought to be founded on the said period.â The scenery must contain both one of a kind and imaginative pictures portraying a typical old Chinese situation like that of a painting.â Images of yard houses ought to be used.â These homes would speak to the distinctive societal position that existed together in that period. In light of Spiro Kostofââ¬â¢s A History of Architecture, conventional Chinese patio houses, (for example, the siheyuan) is made out of a few individual houses around a square, where each house is possessed by an alternate individual from the family.â Aside from this, more houses can likewise be built for extra relatives that should be suited. There must be a solid feeling of serenity and protection which ought to win and be kept up regardless of solid and boisterous scenes in the play. Nursery and water is additionally a standard component with these residences.â The furthest piece of these living arrangements is the place outsiders are engaged while the deepest one is separate for private loved ones of the proprietor. Since the title of the play contains the word day off, winter is another necessity for the play, in certainty for nearly the whole of the play.â This ought to permit an air of despair to overwhelm the stage, making the strict briskness of winter nearly felt and escalated by the chilly hearts of the reprobates in the play.â The snow has a basic influence in this and it should fall drastically in front of an audience with the correct miserable music foundation going with it. à â â â â â â â â â â Last however not the least, there must be blossoms included.â They ought to either be shown in the setting as a feature of the stage props.â Flowers have been an incredible piece of Chinese workmanship simply like the mythical beast and fledgling outlines they use in their antique porcelains.â in general, the whole stage must turn into a major solicit of living Chinese craftsmanship. Stage Directions à â â â â â â â â â â The executive is answerable for drawing out the great nature of the charactersââ¬â¢ acting and the stage production.â Therefore he should be engaged and completely mindful of the foundation of the play in order to appropriately point it. Bearings are comprised of subtleties being heard and seen by the audience.â These ought to be clarified well in the content so as not to confound the chief, the entertainers or even the designers.â The three sorts of stage headings must be thought of, namely:â (1) scene bearings, (2) arranging headings, and (3) character stage bearings. In the content, scene headings are indented at an estimation of 3.5 crawls from the left half of the edge and 1 inch from the right.â This demonstrates the essential spot and time of the scene with subtleties of the occasions in front of an audience as the lights come up or get diminish (ââ¬Å"How to Format a Stage Playâ⬠).â Let us take scene one, act one of the play Snow in Midsummer as showed in the content: à â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â â SCENE ONE (The period was between 1279-1368 A.D.à In a commonplace Chinese town lives MISTRESS CAI, a widow, who shows up in front of an audience with an indication of extraordinary expectation on her face.â She paces at the focal point of the phase in her long, free outfit with wide sleeves and limited cuffs.â Then she faces the crowd with a similar outward appearance.) Second is the organizing directions.â This contains the depiction of a specific scene, for example, the passage, exit, and battles of characters in front of an audience, just as the adjustments in lighting impacts or melodic foundation. MRS. CAI: Where? (The Doctor chokes the widow with the rope. Enter Old Zhang and his child Donkey. As they surge forward the Doctor flees. Old Zhang restores Mistress Cai.) Jackass: Itââ¬â¢s an elderly person, father, almost choked to death. Last would be the character stage directions.â These are short enlightening lines in incidental structure once in a while set under the name of the character.â This shows the proper non-verbal communication while conveying a specific line (ââ¬Å"How to Format a Stage Playâ⬠).â This specific heading puts greater personality on acting.â Here is another model. MRS. CAI (crying): Ok, poor youngster! How am I going to break this to you? Make up The charactersââ¬â¢ cosmetics for the Snow in Midsummer need not seem as though that from a Chinese show in spite of the fact that it might be explained to mirror its rich culture.â It must improve their acting and facial expression.â A kabuki impact is proposed if the creation group might want to add a little movement to it and reducing its appalling base. Dou E and Mistress Caiââ¬â¢s cosmetics may utilize thick establishment with a ruddy base to show femininity.â However the application must be heavier on Mistress Cai to recognize her age alongside some phony wrinkles.â The eyebrows must be upgraded with a thick dark shading while the lips are pouty and dark red. Concerning the senior male entertainers (Doctor Lu, Dou Tianzhang, and Old Chang), a yellow base cosmetics can be utilized diverged from a thick pink redden on.â The eyebrows may likewise be upgraded anyway for the male adversary (Donkey Chang), eye temples ought to be improved with an upward impact at both ends.â Once again the presence of wrinkles ought to recognize ages. Fundamental Pointers for applying stage cosmetics As indicated by Kate Hillard on her article Application of Stage Makeup, cosmetics is regularly applied on thick layers. Not at all like the motion pictures where the camera can concentrate on the actorââ¬â¢s face, crowds can't stand to this sort of office in front of an audience plays.â The cosmetics utilized for the Snow in Midsummer ought to be detailed and brilliant particularly with characters speaking to the high-class society.â There may likewise be steady balance of the cosmetics for the center and lower class individuals however the craftsman must ensure that it is sufficient in expanding the actorââ¬â¢s feelings on stage.â Sometimes even the dull layers of cosmetics vanish on the glaring lights. A thick, substantial cream establishment ought to be applied first which be somewhat darker than the skin tone.â The setting of establishment ought to be begun the brow and mixed well up to the hairline after which the staying of the face is secured along with the ears, eyelids, and neck as though this is the actorsââ¬â¢ genuine complexion.â The neck application ought to likewise be mixed well so as not to make a cover like appearance.â When it comes to male entertainers, establishment is applied on the whole neck and back in some cases yet this can show up messy.â Following the general establishment, a lighter shading is set over the shadows under the nose and on the jawline. At the point when the establishment is done, the redden would follow.â A ruddy shading is utilized for the female entertainers yet this ought to be applied on a lesser degree with male actors.â It is spread over the cheekbone and mostly down the cheek blending it in with a down and up motion.â A normally ruddy tone is required for male on-screen characters while it ought to be darker for the females enough to keep up its perceivability in front of an audience particularly under the hot lights.â Blush should likewise be put over the nose and brow where it is somewhat mixed. The most troublesome part would be the eye makeup.â An exceptionally white ââ¬Å"highlighterâ⬠is first positioned along the temple bone (directly underneath the eyebrow) and under the eye.â The cosmetics Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12278693918149595916noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-516900873140290018.post-52017233209355757052020-08-04T07:52:00.001-07:002020-08-04T07:52:07.597-07:00Why did the engineer cross the roadWhy did the engineer cross the road While you guys anxiously await admissions decisions, I have one piece of advice: smile :) I wrote this entry a few weeks ago, but wanted to save it for finals week / early action decisions pandemonium as reminder not to take life too seriously. As a senior, Iâve been on the prowl for post-graduation opportunities. This means talking to the career office, going to info sessions, and wading through the internetâs many offerings of chemical engineering industry opportunities. Recently, I came upon this one for a junior polymer engineer at a hydrocarbon recovery plant. Can I just point out that a sense of humor is âessentialâ for this career? A posting for another opportunity said, âTechnical applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in at least one programming language. Sense of humor requiredâ¦Seriously.â All of a sudden, Iâm starting to see that humor is valued as much as other typical applicant qualities, which leaves me wondering how in the world it makes such a difference. I talked to a couple of the Gordon Engineering Leadership (GEL) staff about this, and they said some interesting things in defense of humor. GEL program Co-Director, MIT alum, and course VI professor Joel Schindall reflected, âLeaders who can joke around or take a joke when appropriate are certainly easier to work with.â He described the marketing manager, Gary, of the first company he worked for, as someone who frequently joked around with the engineers. â[The engineers] liked it, and when Gary had technical questions from a customer, they would always find time to get him an answer even if they were busy with something else. In addition, Gary would always treat them to coffee when they met at the coffee machine. Coffee was only a quarter in those days, and Gary would say âwhere else can you buy peoples cooperation for only a quarter?ââ Schindall recalled. GEL Executive Director Leo McGonagle said he feels âvery strongly that a good sense of humor is important.â And itâs not just engineering that can benefit: âI would often also emphasize this with my ROTC students as well (the military is a deadly serious profession, but a good sense of humor is still important).â A healthy sense of humor, he added, âhelps keep us humble and not take ourselves too seriously, or to feel too self-important. It also shows that, while work is important, were human, and we need to be able to have fun and enjoy what were doingâ"when thatâs appropriate.â In my experience, humor has single-handedly gotten me through the past three-and-a-half years of drinking from the MIT firehose. During my UROP last year, my supervisor and I were looking for ways to suspend some silicon slides in a round-bottom flask. If we just let them sink to the bottom of our reaction solution, essentially only one side would be exposed to the solution, so our product yield was half of its potential. It seemed like we tried everything to get the reaction to happen on both sides of the slides: We tied them to the top of the flask, we used an Eppendorf tube as a flotation device, we tried to use wire to hold it in place. Each time I came into lab, my supervisor and I joked that it was time for âarts and crafts.â With each disappointment, we would start thinking farther and farther outside of the box for the next idea. Laughing made it much more relaxed and interesting for me. Trust me, when youâre drilling miniature holes into a plastic tube and using it for something completely separate from its intended use, it becomes more of a competition (âThat idea was crazy! How can we top that?â) than a chore. I particularly enjoyed a past lecture when a professor used this image to describe how things in engineering are never as simple as they seem: This is apparently the logo for an indie rock band in England. Oh, if only it was this easy to fly. Ill admit, I googled get cape wear cap fly to find this image. At MIT, you can either be defeated by a challenge, or laugh it off with your friends as you work into the early morning. Letâs be honest, when you get an email, as I recently did, for a certain class that begins with, âObviously, the homework set is way much more complicated than expectedâ and ends, âAnd again, no stress. Youâll be fine,â youâre going to need a good sense of humor to push through the upcoming challenge. And maybe a large coffee. The authors define an incentive as ââ¬Å"a means of urging people to do more of a good thing or less of a bad thing.â⬠This chapter covers three varieties of incentives: Economic, Social and Moral. Economic incentives motivate people with the promise of money or goods. Social incentives motivate people to respond in a certain way because they care about how they will be viewed by others. The results of the data in this chapter shows that a wrestler very well might throw a match to help his opponent maintain his current ranking, when throwing the match does not hurt or help his current ranking. There was economic and social incentive for them to cheat. A wrestler would help another out with the promise of being helped out when they needed it. It was proven that the majority of sumo wrestlers do cheat at one point or another. He would drop off bagels to different offices and leave a basket for the employees to drop in the money for the bagel, a sort of honor system. He kept track of the payments and started an accidental study on honesty. The data showed that smaller offices are more honest than larger ones. (pg. 37) This shows how evil will overcome Macbeths moral conscience and this foreshadows Macbeths transformation from a good captain to an evil, ambitious leader. Throughout the play, the events of corruption and unusualness occur at night. The murder of King Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macbeths sleepwalking, and the witches, all take place at night. Stars, hide your fires, Let not light see my black and deep desires. (pg. 13) demonstrates Macbeths step toward evil as he talks about the murder of King Duncan. During Lady Macbeths scene in which she is sleepwalking, there is epitome of the light and darkness symbol contrast. She has her light by her continually, Otis her command. (pg. 84), symbolizes the fear Lady Macbeth now has for the darkness and evil. She had once desired the darkness but she now carries the candle, light, to drive out the darkness. During the murders, there was a dark setting used which involved supernatural events, while the light setting was used for last battle, when Macbeth was slain at the end to show the restoration of peace and honesty. I apparently thought wrong because stress takes a huge role in everyoneââ¬â¢s life. The main stress factors for me are friends and family, school, and work. Family and friends would have to be number one on my list because it is so much easier to put off school or work for my friends than vice versa. My parents do a lot of meddling in my life, always snooping in my belongings or wanting to know my business and it is so aggravating. We will write a custom essay on Stressful Thinking specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now My siblings contribute by mimicking everything I do. My grandparents expect me to make all the right choices and have no mistakes. There is a need to brag about everything I do so they expect me to be close to perfect. However the most stressful part about my friends and family is trying to balance my time between them and other things such as school. I have always been that weird kid who loves school, but school is stressful too. Making every due date and deadline for each class seems impossible. I have this terrible habit of waiting until the last possible moment to get my work done and I just cannot seem to get over it. For example, I have had since September 10th to revise this paper, but when you look at the date on this essay I chose today to work on it which is ridiculous, therefore I plan to work on using my time wisely. School is a breeze to me because all I have to do is apply myself, study hard, pay attention, and get all the help I that is offered to me. I think it is just that I had a rough time with balancing my time between school and other priorities such as work. I love my job a lot, but having a job is stressful. Getting to work on time is like fighting the hulk; I can never win. Everything seems to find a way to make me late no matter what. It takes forever to find my name tag, everyone wants to drive slowly, and the shuttle to get to work is never on time. However the guest are worse because they can never be satisfied. They will come in with a bad attitude and take it out on me. Some guest are extremely loud and rude and there isnââ¬â¢t too much I am allowed to do about it. My manager is never at work so she is completely useless. Stress is something that will always take its role in life; it is up to me to know how to handle it. Sometimes stress is not always bad as stress can also be considered a challenger. I have to accept the fact that stress is a part of who I am, but I cannot let it get the best of me. After all, no one knows better than you do about what youââ¬â¢ve accomplished this year. Now the key is making sure your employer knows that, as well. Whether youà wantà to ask for a raise straight-up or negotiate a bigger one during an annual review, there are steps you can take to put you in a better position to increase your paycheck. Know your market value.Itââ¬â¢s entirely possible youââ¬â¢re being underpaid relative to other people in similar positions. Itââ¬â¢s also possible that your desire for a 43% increase is totally unrealistic. Thus, itââ¬â¢s time to hit the Internet. Do as much research as you can to determine what your role is worth at a range of companies. Sites like Glassdoor and PayScale can be excellent resources to give you a sense of what others are making in your field. Knowing what you can reasonably expect is crucial in preparing your raise request.Look at your companyââ¬â¢s overall health. Is your company in cost-cutting mode? Did it have a banner year with high-profile clients? Understanding how your company is doing in general can help you figure out where to set your raise expectations. If it hasnââ¬â¢t been a great year for your employer, a huge salary bump just may not be feasible or likely, so shoot for a moderate one instead. This shouldnââ¬â¢t stop you from asking for a raise, but it can help you figure out what to ask for. If your company is struggling, acknowledge that in your request: ââ¬Å"I know weââ¬â¢re cutting back, but Iââ¬â¢d still like to discuss a salary increase.â⬠Donââ¬â¢t wait for them to come to you.Use the yearââ¬â¢s end or a scheduled performance review process to let your boss know that youââ¬â¢d like to discuss salary and career growth. Schedule some time to talk about it with your manager, or at least to touch base before a more formal meeting.Practice negotiating.Grab a frien d to practice your spiel of reasons you deserve a raise. Have the person be as tough a counter-negotiator as possible, so youââ¬â¢ll be ready for any kind of resistance. Know your accomplishments and strengths cold, so you can rattle them off when asked. Try different ways of working them into conversation so they donââ¬â¢t come off like a recited list.Have others sing your praises. If you can walk into the room with kudos from other people, it shows your boss youââ¬â¢re an essential team member. If youââ¬â¢ve received any grateful emails or nice compliments from colleagues or clients over the past year, nowââ¬â¢s the time to dig through your email archive to find them.Donââ¬â¢t make it personal. This is not the time to bust out sob stories about your finances. This raise is about being compensated specifically for your work and your role in the company. Similarly, donââ¬â¢t try to exploit whatever personal relationship you may have with your boss. If you two go o ut for happy hour drinks twice a week or snark on each otherââ¬â¢s Facebook, that needs to stay separate from your professional performance evaluation. No raise is guaranteed, but being extra-double prepared for the discussion, as well as having realistic goals in mind, will show that youââ¬â¢re ready for the next step up. I have even elaborated various needs of modernisation within the conventional procedure of supply chain to promote innovativeness amid individuals, so that organisations are able to enhance their competitive advantages in the global domain. Critical review of the innovative practices inculcated in the SCM procedure has also been quite useful in conducting an in-depth analysis of the subject matter. While working with my first essay, I developed an inductive analysis of aspects related with the development of logistics. However, while formulating the essay, I identified that there are certain issues to be addressed but seemed challenging as per my abilities. I was also less confident when preparing the first essay as compared to my degree of confidence in the second essay. However, with adequate support, I believe to have justified the topic successfully. While conducting an in depth research, on the different approaches of logistics and its scope of innovativeness, I learnt about certain new concepts that I was further able to relate with the development of the overall SCM procedure. One of those concepts was the ââ¬Ësupply base localisationââ¬â¢ theme, which was based on the notion of developing local value chains in relation to international supply chain. With the motive to provide an insight on the various concepts that are related with the innovative approaches of SCM as well as logistics, I could develop a clear understanding of the various needs of SCM in the local level. Watching a horror movie gives us that old feeling of fear and makes us emotionally attached to the film. The horrific images from the movie with its special effects and sudden sounds would make many watch them even though its scary. But almost all the horror movies end after balance is restored and everything turns to normal to give the audience a sense of satisfaction. The dissertation is based on the Study of cinematography and special effects in a Horror movie. In the recent past camera, lighting and special effects are of greater importance and fame, so it will be worth exploring those topics. As far as the technical aspect is concerned a brief research of how these kind of films are being filmed from the shooting spot itself, will be very useful for an aspiring artist to get a better idea about its development. Horror films go back as far as the onset of films themselves, over 100 years ago. Introduction: The researcher was interested in watching horror films from his childhood and he was deeply interested in these genres. In his childhood the researcher was very much impressed with the serial mainly called Genmam-X and Marmadesam. The drama that he staged in his schooldays with horror and scary effects as the theme was applauded well by the audience. The tremendous response from the viewers made him start learning the concepts and idea relating to this genre and finally concluded with this concept. It is difficult to show scary effects in screens. If the director gets his requirements from all the technicians the film will be successful, otherwise it will not. In order to get success the film must contain interesting characters and it also depends on their acting. And in terms of technical aspects the cinematography and special effects play a major role. In Indian cinemas, there is some response for these kinds of genre when compared to Hollywood. The main aim of the upcoming short film is that after seeing this, many people have to change their mind to see horror films also. So the main thing that the film should contain is better cinematography with matching special effects. Instead of concentrating on the story alone, cinematography and special effects should be given more importance. Aim: To give the thrill the viewer expects mainly the use of the camera, lightings and Special Effects, Were Script play the secondary role. Statement of the problem: The main purpose of adding the special effects is to frighten the viewer. When it goes beyond the limit it might not be watched by many people. In this situation it may go to another genre of hardcore horror. It may scare people but it will create some abnormal effects in the minds of some people. Actually this movie came out from the comic that Van Helsing is a ghost hunter who will be roaming around the earth in search of ghost, In this movie also he is coming to a village in search of the ghost. There are two interesting characters in this movie. One is the Frankenstein and the other one is the wolf character which was in the custody of the villain. The extra ordinary thing about the movie is that the CG In early days, man used special effects and later it got developed into visual effects. In this movie there are many visual effects shots. A few examples include the climate sequence where the ordinary man transforms into a wolf that is a quality CG work in the industry. Further there are many VFX shots in the movie. Special effects include the blood bossing from the mouth and the usage of the miniature in the movies where Gabrie l (hero) taking the Frankenstein away from the village. The main success behind the movie is the lighting and cinematography. Reference: Saw-4, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and cinematography by David Armstrong. This movie is the successor of the three early parts. The success behind the movie is the usage of the equipments and the method he used for killing others. In the first scene of the movie the villain killed the victim by tying the body to a steel bed and the axe was in a to and fro motion just above the stomach of the victim where it got peeled into many pieces. Website Reference: This Media Studies Factsheet was researched Written by Steph Hendry The horror films are not from this period. Those films were taken from the very early times where they only depend on the special effects and the camera tricks .At that time also some nice pictures came namely the Frankenstein a ghost which was made by a man by assembling many internal organs .This is the fact, that behind the creation of the ghost namely Frankenstein, is one type of ghost. There are many types of ghost that may include the external ghost which was having its own appearance and they will have some special characteristics. The Internal ghost is that it will enter ones body and it will do some thing inside the body of the character. This is the kind of ghost and others include the vampire. Mostly all the thriller movies have this type of ghost, there will be a character sucking blood from the humans and using them for their existence. They will be more like humans living with them but they will have some special characteristics In the earlier periods the ghost will be only living inside the cave and later the living area of the ghost also increased ,no matter where the ghost are living- it may be at school, it may in our home or inside ones soul no matter where it will be. So we can go to the place as we wish when going for this kind of genre. And nowadays time is also not a matter for the ghost it may come at day time or it may come when we are sleeping and when we are in dream. The only fact is that vampire can roam around the world during day times. Our upbringings also involve the way our society around us interacts. We follow the common saying, ââ¬Å"Monkey see, monkey do.â⬠In ââ¬Å"If You Touched my Heart,â⬠Isabel Allende uses the characterââ¬â¢s personal backgrounds and upbringings also adding the society they live in to justify the way they act. First, Allende gives the readers a taste of the lifestyle of the main character Amadeo. For instance, she writes Amadeo as growing up in the ââ¬Å"midst of his fatherââ¬â¢s gang, and like all men [in the] family, [growing] up to be a ruffian.â⬠Amadeo was taught very early on in life that a man only needed ââ¬Å"balls and quick wits.â⬠In addition, Amadeoââ¬â¢s use for women was only ââ¬Å"[to] seduceâ⬠¦ and abandon them.â⬠To Amadeo using women just for copulation and leaving them didnââ¬â¢t affect him, so it was easy for him to use Hortensia. Also, Allende describes Hortensiaââ¬â¢s upbringings. At the tender age of fifteen, Horetensia lived in a village in Agua Santa. While she was working on a graveling a pathway and singing a song to entertain her though her work, Amadeo met her. He was so captivated by her and her music he had to have her. Since, Hortensia was so young the naà ¯ve, she fell for Amadeoââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"recitation of seduction, all of which [Amadeo] could have omitted because the girl was simpleâ⬠¦ she did not understand the meaning of his words.â⬠After their brief encounter, he left her village not even knowing the girlââ¬â¢s name. She was the one who came running to look for him because he was such an important part of her life now. Since Amadeo knew she was simple minded and she was in love with him, he could do as he pleased with her. Overall, Amadeo knew he was taking advantage of a child who was enchanted with him. Allende tries to show the reader exactly what made Hortensia decide to stay with Amadeo for forty-seven years in an abandoned sugar mill. Amadeoââ¬â¢s excuse to himself for hiding Hortensia was because ââ¬Å"[she] was the one who searched for him; it was she who planted herself before him and clung to his shirt with terrifying submission of a slave;â⬠Amadeo didnââ¬â¢t love Hortensia the way she loved him. He had more of a need that only Hortensia could fulfill. In addition, Hortensia was never interested in the outside world. People said she was a ââ¬Å"woman [with a] calling to be a slave and was happy being oneâ⬠¦ she never exhibited any curiosity about the world [and]à complained about nothing.â⬠Hortensia was just content with what she had. She believed she had more love from Amadeo than anyone else. Amadeo made her believe she was the only one for him by promising her a life full of ââ¬Å"gifts, and dresses and jewels fit for a queen.â⬠In the fina l analysis Hortensia stayed because to her it didnââ¬â¢t matter she was all by herself in the sugar mill; she was in love and she knew Amadeo would always love her. Allende also shows how the society can be connected to the incident with Hortensia and Amadeo. She shows how the communities that Amadeo and Hortensia live in justify the actions Amadeo took. Allende shows the readers that Amadeoââ¬â¢s society is very machismo. In the beginning Allende introduces the readers to an ââ¬Å"era of undisguised plunder [which] had been replaced by corruption and bribery.â⬠All around Amadeo, his society seemed to be full of deceitful and conniving men who used those skills to get ahead in life. Also, Allende shows how domestically dominated by men women were in the story. When ââ¬Å"reporters asked Amadeo why he locked [Hortensia] up like a miserable beast,â⬠he just answered, ââ¬Å"because [he] felt like it.â⬠To him the way treated Hortensia, was the right way ââ¬Å"he could not understand the belated outcry over something that happened so long ago.â⬠Women in this society were never asked their opinions or how they felt. In co ntrast they were told how to feel, act, and behave. Finally, Allende shows the readers a glimpse of Amadeoââ¬â¢s upbringings, but never mentions Hortensiaââ¬â¢s. It can thus be concluded that Hortensia might not have any family, which is why no one came to look for her after she was missing for so many years. To Hortensia having no family and being an orphan might have had an impact to drive her to be with Amadeo because he was the only one who never loved her at all. In the end, Isabel Allende shows how Hortensia and Amadeo through their upbringings justified how they acted toward one another and also showed how their society played a part in their attitudes. It shows how the way people are raised and the society around them can play a vital role in their development. Today I will look at a particular country that is quite similar to the United States. The country I have chosen is the United Kingdom. We will write a custom essay sample on United Kingdom ââ¬â Cultural Leadership Style or any similar topic only for you Order Now The United Kingdom encompasses England, Wales, and Scotland (which combined make up Great Britain) and Northern Ireland. Before looking at how United Kingdom numbers there first needs to be a description of what is in fact being numbered. Hofstede created five cultural dimensions. In each dimension whether it marked high or low can help a business determine how it should operate in that specific country. The first Hofstede dimension is the Power Distance Index. The Power Distance Index has to do with the inequality that not only is accepted but the inequality in existence between individuals of power and also to those without it. There will always be some kind of level of power in all societies and although some may be very unequal this measure simply shows the level of inequality they really are. A low Power Distance Index would mean that power and equality are shared. Society may view them as being a society where power is well dispersed among each other. In a high Power Distance Index however there is an unequal distribution of power and people simply understand their place in the society. When it comes to the United Kingdom though the Power Distance Index is relatively low and has a thirty PDI. This number is an indicator that the ranking of a person or the status in conjunction with their inequalities are low. When relating to more of the office structure this can be more illustrated when looking at the relationship between the superiors and the subordinates. The relationship is more casual like and not as structured and strict as in a high power distance would have been. The second Hofstede dimension is Individualism. Individualism refers to the community and all the ties that link people to them. If there is a high individualism score than there is a loose connection which only means that sharing of responsibilities are low and a lack of interpersonal connection nless of course it is between family and a few close friends. It also means that an individualââ¬â¢s rights are quite dominant. If there is a low individualism score than there is a strong group bond in which there is much respect and loyalty for all members of that group. The group itself would be much larger in comparison to a high score and would take more responsibility for each person making it more collective. In the Uni ted Kingdom they score a quite high one with eighty nine being there IDV number. Therefore there is a need of peopleââ¬â¢s freedoms and the valuation of their time. They enjoy challenges and expect some sort of reward for their accomplishments. There is also more of a respect for their privacy. In this sense the United Kingdom has a nuclear family that is the more leading form of basic social structure. When you think of this on more of a business aspect having a high score would also mean that individuals would be thinking about themselves more instead of the group. High scores would promote individual success but may affect the group which should be monitored. The third Hofstede dimension is Masculinity. Masculinity refers to the traditional roles of a male and female and how much they are valued and stuck to within a society. Having a high Masculinity score would mean that these countries have males that have high expectations to being tough and being the provider for the family as well as being assertive and strong. When pertaining to females in a high context score if they worked would be doing a profession that men did not. There would also be a distinction between men and womenââ¬â¢s work. In a low masculinity score for a country you would see more of a balance when it came to jobs and skills. Women would be able to have success doing the exact same thing as a man. The role of both genders just becomes a bit blur where women work equal across professions with men. Men are also allowed to be sensitive. The United Kingdom had a score of about sixty two. Therefore they try to be somewhere in the middle. Men and women can work equally with each other although a bit of gender bias may still exist. This bias may not be as apparent if the score was a fifty but because it exceeds a little more than fifty it shows that it is an underlying bias maybe just below the surfaces. When relating this to a more business aspect in a high masculinity score the leader of the team should be a male if you wanted to obtain greater success however in a low masculinity score the team should be more balanced with a greater emphasis on skill instead of on gender. The fourth Hofstede dimension is Uncertainty/Avoidance Index. Uncertainty/ Avoidance Index refer to the degree that society members may feel while being in an anxious or uncertain situation. This can also relate to whether or not a person is comfortable or uncomfortable within a certain situation. In a high uncertainty/avoidance index country avoidance of ambiguous situations is a must with the creations of lots of rules and regulations. There is much order with a collective type of truth that is held. Business is also very formal with the need for structure and differences are highly avoided. If there is any level of nervousness it creates high levels of emotion mixed with high levels of expression. In a lower uncertainty/avoidance index the society will enjoy surprises and the differences between individuals are highly valued. They are actually encouraged to seek for their own truth. The United Kingdom has an Uncertainty/Avoidance index of about thirty which means in a more business aspect that they have a more informal business attitude. There is also a more concern on the long term goals and strategies instead in comparison to the more daily happenings. There is a far greater acceptance of change and this society is more prone to taking a few risks unlike a high UAI group which would avoid risk taking. Conflicts and disagreements would also be seen as a healthy relationship amongst workers even at times superiors with different views taken into account to conclude with a better outcome. The last Hofstede dimension is Long Term Orientation. Long Term Orientation refers to how society views the long term standing of traditions and values in comparison to the short term traditions and values. In a high long term orientation score the individuals in a society would refrain from losing face and have social obligations. Traditions are valued to the extreme and family is the basis of the society. Parents and men are seen in these societies to have far more authority than women and young adults. There are very strong work ethics and a high value is placed on the education that is obtained as well as any training. The United Kingdom has a long term orientation score of about twenty. Being that it is very low in comparison to Asian cultures this just means that much can be expected when discussing the creative expression that is in the United Kingdomââ¬â¢s culture. Traditions may not be valued here as much as they would be valued in other societies. This then ust sums that they would be more likely to help when it came to the business aspect of innovating any sought out plans. There would be an execution of those plans as well with the compromise that there will be full participation. In a low long term orientation there is also promotion of equality. Creativity and individualism is also a definition of a low long term orientation where what is strived for is self actualizati on. Although some may see the United Kingdom as being more traditional with all its associations it still promotes equality which in the end makes it different from other cultures or societies. The five dimensions that Geert Hofstede established were one being Power Distance Index (PDI), two being Individualism (IDV), three being Masculinity (MAS), four being Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI), and five being Long Term Orientation (LTO). Each one looked at in pertaining to the United Kingdom gives more of an insight on how the societies culture is and how a business can benefit better if in the United Kingdom. Although many cultural norms play a huge part in the procedure and interpersonal associations at work all these things may seem to just be. Each and every norm just comes natural to the society that you live in. However, when you move outside your norms and are found in a new society knowing what to do or how to run a business may be very intimidating without knowing how that societyââ¬â¢s culture may behave. Once you step foot in a foreign place everything may seem different with completely different norms that are followed. Hofstedeââ¬â¢s five dimensions can thus be a starting position for one to use in determining how to act when comparing what the reactions might be and how that society might think about how you just acted. It would also help in evaluating your approach and the decisions that you make in an organization or business. There may be other deviations from all the norms that may make up a society but having a guide like Geert Hofstedeââ¬â¢s five dimensions will help to not feel completely off guard when encountering new societies. Sometimes not knowing what to expect can be very threatening and not knowing how to act or not knowing how your actions will be perceived can be scary. However, using Hofstedeââ¬â¢s five dimensions can bring new light on any society. When looking at the United Kingdom it is quite similar to the United States so intimidations can be a little lower but taking into account every dimension will help in creating a successful business. Answer: Introduction: Falls are considered by researchers to be one of the leading causes of injury related admission to the emergency departments in the different healthcare centers. It has also been seen to be the primary etiology of accidents mainly in the cohort of the people who are aged 65 years and above (Milos et al. 2014, p 40). The mortality rate for falls is also observed to increase dramatically with the age of the people in both the sexes as well as also in different racial and ethnic groups like the aboriginals and the Torres Islanders. Falls account to about 70 percent of the total accidental deaths of old people who are mainly 75 years of age and older (Bloch et al. 2014, p303-306). One of the striking facts that holds great significance and should be noted is that the rate of fall of geriatric patients is also very high in healthcare centers as well. Falls are usually the markers of poor health as well as declining function. One of an interesting fact stated by researchers is that one thi rd of the geriatric patients who are community dwelling and 60% of thenursing home dwellers have suffered fall once during their stay in the healthcare centers. This occurrence results in increased suffering of the patients associated with long stays of patients on the healthcare centers, poor quality life and depression due to loss of mobility (Wallander et al.2017, pp.449). The assignment will mainly target the aged population who are highly vulnerable towards falls. It will also show how thenursing professionals in the geriatric departments can apply different strategies so that such occurrence does not occur. Target population: With the development of the medical science and healthcare researches over the years, life expectancy has increased. The Australian Bureau of statistics had shown that life expectancy of Australian population has made a record. According to the data released by the board in the year 2014, it was seen that the male life expectancy has increased from 80.1 in 2013 to 80.3 years and female life expectancy has increased from 84.3 to that of 84.4 years. As the average age of the death in Australia has increased to 82.45 years, the population of the aged people are increasing at a fast pace. They are living longer days now than in earlier decades (Soto-varela et al. 2015, pp.8). However, although the expectancy has increased, it had exposed them to a number of chronic disorders like obesity, osteoarthritis, cardiovascular issues and many others. These had provided poor quality lives of aged people for which they spend their days in the community healthcare centers, nursing homes and resident ial care as well. All these chronic issues make them lose their independence, as they tend to lose mobility. They lose many of their physical function for which they tend to depend on caregivers for help (Padron Monendra et al. 2017, pp.1559). Such vulnerable conditions often expose them to various types of incidents out of which falls are the most common. A report published by the New South Wales government showed 25.6 % of older people have fallen at least once in the preceding months. Among the old patients who fell, 66.1 % stated that they suffered from injury and 20% of the people also had to be admitted to the hospitals. It was also seen, that patients also had fall in the healthcare centers due to improper risk assessments conducted by thenursing professionals (Hshiesh et al. 2015, pp.512). Moreover, it was also seen that many nurses is not have proper knowledge and skills to handle fall prone patients successfully. All these had exposed the geriatric population to different instances of fall and healthcare costs had increased to a huge extent. The costs associated with this fall account for more than 80% of the cost of treatment for fall related injuries that results in creating pressure not on the financial planning of the patients and family members but also results in excessive outflow of resources in hospitals (Chen, Zhu Zhou 2014, p.437). Complications: Falls are known to threaten independence of elderly people largely. It results in the initiation of a cascade of not only individual but also different socioeconomic consequences. Loss of independence results in development of depression and anxiety among the patients that causes loss of mental stability. They are also seen to increase risks of injury as well as death or hospitalizations. These symptoms are more common in older individuals who are already living with preexisting diseases co morbidities like osteoarthritis, obesity and others (Huang et al. 2016, p.40). Longer-term complications results in decreasing of physical functions, fear of falling and leads to institutionalization. Certain falls cause minor injuries like contusions or abrasions. It also results in various types of major issues of which the most common are fractures of the humerus, pelvis as well as wrists. Hip fractures in the old patients are one of the most notable outcomes not only dye to fall in the houses of the old patients but also in the hospital and healthcare centers. Improper education given by the nurses does not provide proper health literacy to the patients and therefore they tend to be more vulnerable towards incidences of fall (Milos et al. 2014, p40). Other serious injuries include different types of head and internal injuries as well as lacerations. Overall mortality after hip fracture tends to range from 18 to 33% in the first 12 months as they cannot take the suffering and are not properly educated to take post-operative care successfully. Function as well as quality of life is also seen to deteriorate at a drastic rate after a fall. 50% of the aged patients who were in an ambulatory stage before fracturing hip before fall can never get back to their previous level of mobility. Aged individuals, who had previous experiences of fall and sufferings associated with it, develop a fear of falling again (Khosravi Ghapanchi 2016, p18). Because of this, confidence gets lost i n them for which further mobility is reduced. Patients start avoiding daily activities of lives along with other activities like cleaning, shopping, walking and others. Decrease of activities in turn result in stiffness of joints associated with weakness. All these result in mental and physical degradation of the patients (Lopez-Soto et al. 2016, p.19). Factors that result in fall: Researchers are of the opinion that falls in the elderly patients are rarely because of a single cause or risk factor. They are mainly the results of different types of complex interaction among different factors (Hill et al. 2015, p.2596). These are intrinsic factors, extrinsic factors and different situational factors. Intrinsic factors include age related changes. These impair different systems that are involved in maintaining stability and balance of the aged individuals that include standing, walking as well as sitting of the individuals. This increases their risks of falls. Contrast sensitivity, visual acuity, perception of depth and adaptation to dark all decline when individuals age. Moreover, changes in muscle activation patterns as well as modifications of the capability in generating sufficient muscle power and velocity results in impairing the ability of the aged individuals in maintaining or recovering balance in response to perturbations (Huded et al. 2015, p.1043). These include activities like stepping onto uneven surface or being bumped onto something. Muscle weakness of any types can act as a major predictor of falls. Researchers are also of the opinion that certain chronic and acute disorders and use of their drugs act as major risk factors that causes incidents of falls. Certain p sychoactive drugs are seen to increase the risk of falls and result in fall related injuries. Extrinsic factors mainly include different environmental factors that result in increasing the risks of falls. These factors either work independently or may interact with intrinsic factors resulting in the falls. The risks of fall become the highest when the environment needs greater postural control and mobility like when walking over a slippery surface. Falls may also occur when the environment is unfamiliar like visiting a new place or when relocating of homes are done. Situational factors mainly include certain activities as well as decisions, which increases the risk of falls and other fall related injuries (Kim Jeong 2015, p.2015). Some of the examples include walking while talking or remaining distracted due to multitasking. This may result in failing of the aged individual to notice the environmental hazard like a curb or steps. Often they may also need to rush to the bathroom in the nights when they are not fully awake or when lighting is also inadequate. This might act as a situation where aged people become highly vulnerable to fall. Rushing to answer phones also result in incidents of falls for frail elderly patients. Strategies that prevent fall: Once the patients have been properly assessed about the probability of their chances to fall, nursing professionals should allocate proper interventions that which ensure that the patients are free from any risks of falls. For these reason, they have to be very careful and provide person centered care to patients ensuring that their demands are met; safe care is provided and are made free from any chances of fall. Those elderly patients who are at a high risk for fall should be provided signs or should be secured with wristbands (Frankenthal et al. 2014, p.1658). Wristband identification would help the nursing professionals to remember their vulnerability towards fall. These would help the healthcare professionals to adopt fall precaution behaviors with them that would reduce chances of incidents of falls. The healthcare professionals should also shift such patients to rooms near the nurse station. Researchers are of the opinion that nearby location would help healthcare professional s to develop constant observation and help them in responding quickly to different call needs from such frail patients. Most of the important items that are used by the patients should be kept within the reach of the patients like the call light, water, urinal as well as telephones as items which are too far to reach may contribute to incidents of falls causing hazards. Moreover, the healthcare professionals should make sure that the beds are kept at lowest possible as possible (Wilson et al. 2016, p.1012). If possible, then the healthcare professionals can set the sleeping surface of the patients as adjacent to the floor as much as possible. Another strategy that the healthcare professionals may apply is the use of side rails on beds as required. For cases when the beds are with split rails, the healthcare professionals should make sure that at least one of the rails are down at the foot of the bed. Researchers are of the opinion that when only one of the four rails are left down, patients are less likely to fall. However, nursing professionals should never take the help of restraints for reduction of falls. Use of restraints in turn increases physical harms like bruises and wounds when the patients try their best to be free for such restraints. It also harms their dignity and autonomy and they feel disrespected. It also affects their mental stability resulting in depression and anxiety. The healthcare professionals should also make sure that the rooms have appropriate lighting especially during the night. The patients should be encouraged to wear slippers or shoes that have non-skid soles when walking (Matarese et al. 2015, p.1198). Non-skid footwear helps in decreasing the rate of falls as they ensure sure footing accompanied by diminished foot and toe lift during the time of walking. Moreover, the patients should be made familiarized with the layout of the room and rearrangement of the furniture of the room should be prevented in order to avoid tripping ov er the furniture. The healthcare professionals should also provide heavy furnitures that do not tip over when aged patients use them as support while ambulating. The primary path should be made clear and straight. Clutters should be avoided on the surface of the floor. Another interesting strategy that can also be applied is the use of bed or chair alarms when the patients try to get up without taking any support or assistance. Such audible alarms are wonderful substitutes of physical restraints and help in reminding the patients that they should not get up alone. The healthcare professionals should collude with other team members for conducting proper assessment and evaluations of the medications of the patients that contribute in falling. Sitters are effective and help in guaranteeing a secured, safe and protected environment (Muller et al. 2015, p.519). They are very much helpful for patients who have impaired ability for following of directions. Allowing patients to take part in exercises and gait training and informing them about the advantage of wearing eyeglasses and hearing aids are other ways to prevent falls. High-risk patients can also be provided with hip pads. The patients and the family members should be also taught about how to ambulate safely at home. This trainings should include the professionals describing the benefits of the use of handrails in bathrooms and similar others. The caregivers at homes should make sure that the clutters are properly removed and the house is kept neat and tidy. All clutters like stacks of old newspapers, magazines and others in hallways and staircases may result in falls. Moreover, tripping hazards should be removed or repaired. Proper examinations of rooms should be done so that loose carpets, slippery throw rugs as well as wood floorboards that stick up do not act as tripping hazards (Bunn et al.2014, p.13) . Grab bars and handrails should be implemented for going up and downstairs, stepping in and out of the bathtubs and while getting on and off the toilet. Researchers have also found out that loose and baggy clothes worn in homes can make people fall and therefore better fitting and properly hemmed cl othing should be used making sure that they do not bunch up or drag on the floor. Care should be also taken that the lighting of the house is adequate installing brighter bulbs where needed. Socks although comfortable should be avoided as they provide a slipping risk. Therefore, the caregivers should purchase non-slip socks and proper non-skid shoes. Bathtubs, showers, floors in kitchens, bathrooms and porches, when wet, can become dangerous. Therefore, care should be taken that they are not left wet. Researchers suggest use of non-slip mats that prevent chances of falls. Even precautions like guard rails can face sometimes and therefore in order to avoid such uncertainty, it is better for the aged people to remain on the lowest level of the house (McKensie et al. 2017, p.4) Conclusions: The cases of falls and admissions to healthcare centers are seen to be increasing with the age of the patients. Moreover, many of the frail and elderly patients also suffer from incidents of fall in the healthcare units. This is either due to improper monitoring of the professionals, improper education of the patients by the professionals or due to improper handling of the patients by the professionals. Therefore healthcare professionals should develop knowledge about the complications of falls and how these result in economic burden of the patients and family members along with physical and mental instability. Therefore, it is important for the healthcare professionals to identify the intrinsic, extrinsic and situational factors and thereby provide different fall prevention strategies. Proper strategies when applied in healthcare centers and at homes will ensure reduction of falls resulting in better quality lives. It is my position that Leadership, in essence, is the sum of these definitions. In order to have and maintain commanding authority, a leader must be the principal performer of his/her group. Leadership, based on examples presented by Michael Hanna and Gerald Wilson , is dynamic. The field of knowledge has developed through a series of trials and discoveries, ranging from the Classical scientific theory to contemporary Total Quality Management. With this in mind, leadership should be classified as a soft science, just as philosophy, sociology and psychology. Leadership, without regard to method, is an art; the skillful application of leading is much the same as the skillful application of brushstrokes by a painter. Being both rational and emotional, it involves both sides of human experience. It includes actions and influences based on reason and logic as well those based on inspiration and desire. Leadership also requires involvement working within the social context shared among all members of a group. As illustrated through the Hawthorne experiment, empathy and involvement are important elements of leadership. Is management the same as leadership? Management is a position of authority. Management says what need to get done and supplies the material to get it done. Management tends to be the more educated than the experienced. Managers can be trained to hold a position. Though management is often a position of leadership. Leadership and management are not the same. Anyone can be a manager and not have anyone to lead. Being able to manage requires understanding the aspects of a particular task or mission. A leader must motivate followers to the completion of the mission. Simply stated, management sets the stage and directs and the leadership motivates and makes it happen. Both need support from each process in order to achieve its' goals. Leadership is not just based on the leader. In assessing leadership you must look at the leader, the follower, and the situation or task. In order to do an assessment of the leader, evaluate what is expected from those following. Look at the situation and environment that surrounds the whole concept. Both the leader and followers must serve a common goal. Leadership is 100% service and 100% partnership, to maintain good leadership; one must develop a working relationship between themselves and followers. There are different types of followers, alienated, conformist, pragmatist, and exemplary followers. Alienated followers are the ones that are irritants, who like to always point out the negative aspect on everything and overlook the positive aspects. The conformist follower is the yes person, or brown noser within a group. As long as things are in conformance with social and organizational standards, as long as promotions and other aspects of the job are equal there's really no probl em. Pragmatist are not committed to workgroup goals but have learned not to make waves, basically they will do only what is needed to get by. The exemplary follower is almost like a self-leader. They can adjust to any situation. They are independent, innovative, creative and willing to stand up to superiors. A strong follower helps a good leader to become a better leader. This could also bring on a well-bonded working relationship. In evaluating the leadership process, a lot of things come into play. Followers usually play a key role in organizational successes and failures, yet these outcomes are often attributed solely to leaders. Everyone has spent and will spend more time as a follower than as a leader. Spending time reflecting on follower experiences may be one important key to leadership success. Values play a central part of a leader's psychological makeup. Values are an important component of the moral reasoning process. Values also serve to organize attitudes, which are gen eral and enduring positive or negative feelings about some person, object, or issue. There are two sets of attitudes that play a role in leadership. They are the attitudes leaders have about themselves and the attitudes leaders have about others. Managing stress is also an important skill for leaders and followers to have. They both must learn to monitor their own Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12278693918149595916noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-516900873140290018.post-21946416441962129232019-11-26T09:09:00.001-08:002019-11-26T09:09:04.839-08:00The Plant Cell Essays - Organelles, Membrane Biology, Cell BiologyThe Plant Cell Essays - Organelles, Membrane Biology, Cell Biology The Plant Cell Cell Wall Size: Around 1? Basic Function: * Hold the shape of the cell. * Strengthen the cell. Covering the cell membrane of the plant cell, there is the cell wall. The cell wall is composed of two layers of rigid, hard cellulose embedded in compounds like pectin and lignin. Pores in the cell wall allow molecules to pass through. The cell wall has two parts. The primary cell wall is formed during the growth of the cell. After the cell has stopped growing, a secondary cell wall forms. This secondary wall is made of lignin and cellulose, woven together tightly, to prevent further growth and to form and strong protective barrier. Cytoplasm Size: Unmeasurable Basic Function: * Helps dissolve waste products * Creates a "medium" for vesicles to travel through * Aids in cell metabolism * Serves as a home for the cytoskeleton. The cytoplasm is the jelly-like material that makes up much of the cell. It is 80% water and usually clear in color. It also contains many salts. The liquid portion is referred to as cytosol. In fact, "cytoplasm" means "cell substance." The cytoplasm is also the home of the cytoskeleton, a network of cytoplasmic filaments that are responsible for the movement of the cell. The cytoplasm is constantly moving and churning due to cytoplasmic streaming. Golgi Apparatus Size: Between 2 and 3? Basic Function: * Serves as "processing center" for cell. * Packages and processes new proteins. * Prepares proteins for secretion or storage. The Golgi Apparatus is a series of stacked membranes in the cytoplasm that packages proteins for secretion or storage in vesicles. Inside the membranes are sacs of fluid or gel-like substances. The Golgi Apparatus takes proteins in transport sacs from the endoplasmic reticulum and sends it through a series of these membranes. The proteins are then "modified"' as they pass from membrane to membrane. After the vesicle of proteins has finished its trip through the Golgi Apparatus, it buds off the organelle in a Golgi sac, ready to be stored or transported to other parts of the body. Cell Membrane Size: 7 to 8 NM (nanometers) Basic Function: * Controls what enters and exits the cell. * Separates cell from outer environment. On the outside of all cells, there is a layer of protein and lipid (fat) called the cell membrane or the plasma membrane. This membrane is found in ALL cells. The membrane is selectively permeable, meaning it allows some molecules to enter and some not to. The membrane allows molecules in through two forms of transport, active and passive. Passive transport consists of simple diffusion through the pores in the membrane or carrier molecules. Active transport consists of endocytosis, exocytosis, and the sodium- potassium pump. The membrane also protects the cell from the outside environment, keeping the cytoplasm and its organelles in, and all of the stuff outside out. Mitochondria Size: 2 to 3 ?m Basic Function: * Serves as "respiration" center" for cell. * Makes energy for the cell. Floating inside the cytoplasm are a series of fairly large organelles called Mitochondria. These organelles, the size of some bacteria, serve as the cell's respiration centers, the place where energy for the cell is produced. Since the Mitochondria serves as a center for energy production, there are varying numbers of mitochondria in different cells. Muscles have many mitochondria due to the amount of energy they need, but skin cells have very few. The mitochondria (singular: mitochondrion) have two membranes. The outer membrane protects the organelle, and the inner membrane is folded into a series cristae or long folds. Endoplasmic Reticulum Size: Highly variable Basic Function: * Serves as "transportation system" for cell. * Moves proteins and vesicles around cell. The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (or ER) serves as a home for the ribosomes of a cell and as a "highway" for the cell's proteins to be transported on. Being close to the ribosomes allows for the quick transfer of proteins from them to the rest of the cell. This "highway" is composed of interconnected membranes and vesicles. The process of transporting these newly created proteins is critical to the cell, and is required for furthur survival. The ER is very closely associated with the Golgi Apparatus. Vacuole Size: Varies from 10+? to quite small. Basic Function: * Serves as large storage centers for cell. * Hold water and many nutrients Inside the cell, surrounded by the cytoplasm, is Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12278693918149595916noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-516900873140290018.post-67566022719811459042019-11-22T16:32:00.001-08:002019-11-22T16:32:02.745-08:005 College Cash-Saving Tips5 College Cash-Saving Tips 5 College Cash-Saving Tips So the end of semester is nearly here, and I guess your bank account is getting pretty low. In this note, the company agreed to donate $1000 to sponsor the night trivia. Further, we were keen in controlling the costs of organizing the event by ensuring that we select a venue that is cost effective. Our choice of venue for the event is Apple cross Anglican Church where it is possible to reduce the total cost for holding the event while still making the guests to have fun. The main hall areas in the Apple cross Anglican Church can host a maximum of about 230 guests at a cost of $20 per hour after 6pm for non-profit events (Applecross Anglican Church, n.d). In addition, the venue has other additional offers such as tables and soft drinks. Further, we have approached the Sound Guys Company where we have obtained discounted sound system at a cost of $70 for the event. All these additional resources make the cost of holding the event in the venue to be within our limited budget. In order to attract a large number of guests, we have organized some prizes and gifts that will be given to the participants of night trivia. For instance, we have approached Dymocks book shop who agreed to donate different types of books in order to support the event. In addition, we have also approached Coles Supermarkets who agreed to support the night trivia by donating food hampers that will play great part in attracting more participants. Further, we were able to get some gifts such as soaps, perfumes and lotions from Elizabeth Shop that will also constitute the prizes to be given out. In order for the participants to win the gifts, the trivia will be organized in such a way that groups in a table will compete Janehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12278693918149595916noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-516900873140290018.post-18789534476846261762019-11-19T08:32:00.001-08:002019-11-19T08:32:03.417-08:00Firewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems AssignmentFirewalls and Intrusion Detection Systems - Assignment Example What are the similarities and differences of these two systems? Intrusion detection systems are software applications or devices that detects and monitors malicious activities of violations of policies provided. In addition, the application provides reports and information to management stations. The application has different ways and mechanisms that may detect network traffic from different sources. In general, intrusion detection systems focus on detecting network incidences, logging information of users and reporting log in attempts (Ross, 2001). Moreover, companies use the systems to monitor their existing security systems. This is done by detecting issues with security policies and creating documentation on existing network issues. In addition, the system may provide recommendations on how to update existing security policies. The main objectives of IDS are analyzing and monitoring system activities and users, taking part in system audits, analyzing the safety of content used and required, detecting unusual activities and comparing partners to malware patterns. One major weakness of the system is that it must contain human operations which may hinder the effectiveness of automated functionality (Verma, 2008). On the other hand, firewalls are also used to increase the effectiveness of network security approaches. Firewall protects network security systems from access from unauthorized sources. Verma (2008) is of the assumption that firewall protect security prior to their access. The author further points out that the security system relies on its ability to protect access and distortion before threat is launched. To increase the effectiveness of the system, they are regularly updated to be able to identify advanced network threats. Firewall security systems also ensure the safety of the network connection used in a business. With a protected security firewall detects both incoming and outgoing packets. A lot of parents are concerned about how these video games are affecting their children. Are these video games good or bad for our children? Video gaming has both positive and negative effects on children. Video games are not only entertaining but also educational; they create challenges for children to take on in order to proceed to new levels. Video gaming is also very influential with a child. That is why it is very important to monitor children while playing. There are many positive effects to playing video games. Playing a video game is a way to exercise the brain, it helps children develop skills like following directions, problem solving and hand-eye coordination that develop fine motor and spatial skills. Video games contribute a lot to education, like developing reading skills; gamers must read to get instructions, follow storylines, and get information. Gamers also become more determined because, usually they donââ¬â¢t succeed the first time playing a level so they try and try again until they move on to the next level. Games can provide a positive outlet for children to release bottled up frustrations the same way many sports like basketball and football do. Video games allow parents to bond with their children and play together and can be something they share in common. Of course with every good there is a bad. Most of the bad things about video games are usually blamed on the violence that is in them. Children who play more violent video games are more likely to have more aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Playing too much video game keeps children indoors and become less social with family and friends. It also causes children to spend less time doing other activities like doing homework or playing sports. Some video games teach children improper morals and are easily confused between reality and fantasy. Excessive gameplay can contribute to poor performance in school and also cause a slew of health issues like obesity, video-induced seizures, postural, muscular and skeletal disorders and carpal tunnel syndrome. Children who are spending too much time playing video games may show signs of impulsive behavior and have attention problems. The effects of video games vary on children depending on the kind of parenting. Children usually imitate what they see in these video games so itââ¬â¢s important for parents to understand their childrenââ¬â¢s maturity level and what kind of games parents should allow their children to play. We are now living in a sophisticated and high-tech world so video games are essential to the development of children with todayââ¬â¢s technology.
